| The inspiration
behind this website is my daughter, Brittney. She is an
active 11 year old who like most girls is trying hard to grow
up way too fast. I want to be a mom who is not always
saying no but at the same time is not letting her grow up too
fast or letting her get into things that are not appropriate
for her age.
Girls at this age are caught
between being a little girl and a young lady and it is
difficult. They are excited to be more grown up yet
still hold on to some little girl things. I believe it
is very important at this age to encourage them as much as
possible to boost self esteem, to help them feel good about
themselves, help them feel more independent and let them know
that they can accomplish anything! At the same time, it
is important not to push them into acting too grown up and
making sure they are not into things that are for older girls.
I have compiled some items on
this site that I feel are age appropriate for "tween" and
early teen girls. Things that will help them feel good
about themselves, help them feel more grown up without making
them look like they are 12 going on 20!
Our girls need to grow up feeling
strong, empowered and independent but do not need to be thrown
into a world that is too much for them too soon.
Blessings-
Heather; mom of
Brittney
About
Brittney:
Brittney was born
November 22, 1996. She is an avid reader as well as an
aspiring writer and illustrator. Creativity is something
Brittney is not lacking!
Brittney is an
outgoing, positive vibrant girl who is always willing to lend
a helping hand or give a hug in time of need. She is not
afraid to break out and be her own creation! No
following the crowd for her. Brittney tries hard to
inspire her friends and classmates to take the role of leaders
and not followers. She also tries hard to befriend
everyone and lead by example - there is no reason to have an
"in crowd", friends are friends no matter their social status!
Brittney takes a
self defense class, has dabbled in theater classes and plays
soccer in the summer. She is never without a book and
many times can be found writing - she has written several
children's books, short stories and poems. She loves school
and keeps her grades up.
Brittney is like
any other girl her age - checking herself out in the mirror,
making sure her clothes are "just right", listening to music,
keeping up with the latest and greatest singers and tv stars
that kids her age go ga-ga over and trying to create her own
identity.
As a way to reach and empower other girls her age, Brittney
and her mom have created Britt's - a place to not only shop
for age appropriate items but a place that will hopefully
evolve into a gathering place for girls offering information
and fun!
